Whistler and Pemberton police dealt with a rash of motor-vehicle collisions and impaired drivers over the past week, confirmed the RCMP.

Between Feb. 12 and 19—which included the busy B.C. Family Day and U.S. Presidents’ Day holidays—police responded to five reports of motor-vehicle collisions and removed eight impaired drivers from the road.

In a release, police noted that the majority of collisions came as a result of speed or poor weather conditions.

“Police continue to remind drivers to slow down, give lots of space to other vehicles and give yourself extra time to reach your destination,” the statement read.

Local police also had a message for those who choose to drink and drive.

“Avoid being in this situation by having an alternate way to get home after an evening’s celebration—plan not to drink and drive,” the release said.
