Newly renovated conference centre to host community fundraiser
Although there are still almost two months to go until the Association of Whistler Realtors 13 th annual Festival of Lights gala dinner and auction, organizers are expecting the tickets to go quickly once they are made available mid-October.
This year the event will take place in the newly renovated Telus Conference Centre at Whistler, giving people a chance to see the inside of this facility.
Organizers are already contacting local businesses for auction prizes, and so far the list includes items from Keir Fine Jewellery, and an Alaskan cruise donated by the Nita Lake Lodge Corporation.
Janice McGuinness is serving as the executive director for this years event, and will be approaching businesses for items for both the live and silent auctions.
Pamela Martin will return as master of ceremonies, and Top City will provide the musical entertainment.
The Festival of Lights is accepting applications for funding by local groups until Oct. 31, and recipients will be notified by Nov. 12. In the past 11 years, the Festival of Lights has distributed more than $550,000 to schools, daycares, Millennium Place, the librarys capital fund, the Whistler Health Care Centre, childrens clubs, fire departments, social services, and other community and non-profit groups in the corridor.
Last years event raised more than $60,000, of which $25,000 went towards the purchase of a portable C-Arm X-Ray machine for the health care centre.
The event is expected to sell out again this year, so organizers are suggesting people get organized and contact a Realtor to get on the list for tickets, which should be available in the next couple of weeks.
