What: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Where: Blackcomb Base II

When: Thursday, Sept. 30, 9:30 p.m.

In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind screenwriter Charlie Kaufman takes an abstract, inventive approach to the standard romantic comedy and comes through with an unconventional but successful take on the genre.

A couple, played by Carrey and Winslet, undergo a procedure to erase each other from their respective memories when their relationship turns sour, but is it only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.

The New York Times called Carrey’s performance "the best work Jim Carrey has ever done."

As actors, Carrey and Winslet are not the most likely pair to make a convincing couple on screen, but Kaufman and director Michel Gondry knew what they were doing when they made this film.

Movie begins at 9:30 p.m. but come early to find a good spot. Whether you're in a car or a commuter, wear warm layers and bring blankets. Movie soundtrack will be transmitted to car radios and there will be outside speakers for commuters. Seating is provided.

All Commuter Challenge participants will be entered into the draw for a Whistler Blackcomb seasons pass. Walk, bike, or take the bus and receive extra commuter points.

Walk, bike, or take the bus and pay $1. Carpool and pay $10/car.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is rated PG.

Movie will be cancelled in the event of rain. Check back on Sept. 30 or call the hotline 604-902-0769 for cancellation details.
