environment awards

Whistler-Blackcomb wins two Silver Eagles Whistler-Blackcomb has won two environmental awards. The environmental awards, created by The Skiing Company, a division of Times Mirror Magazines, are intended to recognise environmental achievement in North American ski resorts. The first award was given for Excellence in Fish and Wildlife Habitat Protection due in large part to the work done by the Habitat Improvement Team (HIT), which is a mountain-facilitated, community-focused environmental group dedicated to improving wildlife habitat throughout the resort. "The resort solicits projects from environmental groups, rounds up a posse and get the job done with a roll-up your sleeves attitude," judges said. "Very high profile. Very effective." The second Silver Eagle Award, for Excellence in Environmental Group Mediation, was award "because we work hard at finding common ground," said Arthur DeJong, mountain planning and environmental resource manager. "This award is a reflection of the willingness in our community to achieve environmental goals together as a cohesive group. The honour of this Silver Eagle award belongs to the entire community as much as it does Whistler-Blackcomb."
