BC Hydro and the British Columbia Transmission Corporation are jointly developing the new substation, which will be built behind Cardinal Concrete under the existing transmission lines.
The substation is scheduled for completion in late 2006. Construction started July 17 and will continue through the summer and into the fall.
The first stage of work will consist of site clearing, retaining wall construction, and ductbank and manhole construction.
This work will see about 400 truckloads of soil and unsuitable materials removed from the site. This will occur for two weeks in August during the site clearing phase of construction. There will also be around 300 truckloads of fill material being delivered to the site for the construction of the retaining wall during two weeks in mid-August to mid-September.
The ductbank and manhole construction will require some excavation along Alpha Lake Road and the access road, as well as formwork and concrete pouring. It is expected to begin on Aug. 1 and will continue until Nov. 16.
