Organizers are taking registration until 15 minutes before the official start of Saturday's Comfortably Numb Trail Run, a 25 km trail run that mainly follows the Comfortably Numb mountain bike trail from Wedgemont to Spruce Grove Park.
The first two thirds of the race trend uphill, but with roughly 880 metres of vertical from start to finish there is nothing too steep. The trail can be technical in spots, however, including a 6 km descent on open rock faces.
Kevin Titus, one the race organizers, did some pruning on a reclaimed logging road section this week but otherwise the course is in good shape.
"Everything is pretty good, the trail is in good shape and should be close to perfect on race day with light rain this week firming some of the dry sections up," he said.
Already 90 racers have registered to take part and organizers are expecting more racers to sign on at the last minute registration.
Online registration closes at midnight on Thursday, June 25, but you can still register in person at Escape Route during the package pickup, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Day of race registration is available at the start line at Wedgemont from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
There are two buses available to take runners from the finish line at Spruce Grove Park to the start line. The first bus leaves at 7:45 a.m. and the next at 8:15 a.m.
New this year, organizers have added an earlier start for recreational runners. Runners that expect to take three and a half hours or longer can now start at 8:15 a.m., 45 minutes earlier than the rest of the field. Organizers also moved the race from Sunday to Saturday this year.
The finish line is at Spruce Grove Park once again, although the final stretch will follow a slightly different route because of the Riverside RV park's expansion.
Organizers are also looking for volunteers, including first aid on the course. If you can help out for a few hours on Saturday, send an e-mail to email@example.com.
