The world's second biggest country by land mass, this Commonwealth country was incorporated in 1867 by an order of Queen Victoria. In this country you would find the world's biggest lobster, biggest squirrel, biggest five-cent piece and biggest lumberjack.
A perfect answer, in the form of a question, is "What is Canada?"
It's fitting that Alex Trebek, host of the best quiz show ever conceived for the past 26 years, is a hoser. And not just any hoser, but a true bean-and-bacon eating, maple syrup sucking, black fly-swatting hoser who was raised speaking both official languages.
Born in Sudbury, Ontario, in the shadow of that massive nickel we mentioned earlier, and an even bigger smokestack that is used to smelt resources chipped out of the mighty Canadian Sheild, Trebek is everything we pride ourselves to be as Canadians. He's educated, worldly, affable, polite, self-deprecating, charitable and extremely thankful. In the 26 years he's hosted Jeopardy! he's never publicly insulted any of guests, never been arrested for a DUI, never made a sex tape, never been photographed coming out of a limo without his Made in Nova Scotia Fruit of the Loom underpants.
He is class personified, already committed to spending his upcoming retirement helping children in the third world with World Vision.
A former host of Reach for the Top and a dozen other shows, Alex Trebek is also probably the reason that Canadians are so obsessed with trivia and why Jeopardy! is such a hit in the ratings — a fact that no doubt made it so much harder for our national broadcaster, CBC, to stop airing the show in favour of more Made in Canada programming (as if anything could be more made in Canada than Alex Trebek).
In this year's Canada Day Quiz, we will not be asking for your answers in the form of questions, but it is more enjoyable if you imagine the questions being asked in Mr. Trebek's familiar voice.
