There's support for the Bunbury lands rezoning, as evidenced at Tuesday's public hearing, but it comes with some conditions.
The rezoning, which legitimizes the three homes currently on the land, as well as creating zoning for two additional market lots, requires owner Alex Bunbury to create parkland and donate $400,000 to the employee housing reserve,
Peter Ladner, who lives close to the proposed rezoning lands above Creekside, asked council to consider including the development of a sidewalk along the much used Gondola Way as part of the rezoning. He asked council to use a portion of that employee housing reserve contribution for the job.
"Gondola Way is extremely dangerous," said Ladner, adding that it's the access to the Bunbury property.
"I think it's an accident waiting to happen."
While Ladner recognizes that there may be some issues because it's a private road, he urged council to find a solution.
"I think you could find a way to justify doing this," he said.
The Bear Creek strata residents also supported the rezoning but asked council to consider that the Bunbury lands residents contribute to the road maintenance and snow removal of the private road that leads to the land, among other things. It is currently maintained and paid for by the Bear Creek strata.
Council deferred a decision on the rezoning while it considers the comments at the public hearing.
