After a long summer, Canada's best freestyle skiers will be back in action this week.

Seven big air competitors are in New Zealand for the first FIS World Cup event of the season with finals on Sept. 7. The event is being held at Cardrona Alpine Resort as part of the Winter Games NZ festival.

Whistler's Yuki Tsubota will compete with Dara Howell and Elena Gaskell on the women's side while fellow Whistlerite Teal Harle will join Evan McEachran, Alex Beaulieu-Marchand and Noah Morrison on the men's side.

Earlier in the Winter Games, young competitors took part in the FIS Junior World Championships. Snowboarder Jadyn Chomlack of Whistler tied for 19th in the slopestyle event on Aug. 31 with a score of 74.66.
