Whistlers Jeff Beatty won the Elite Mens downhill at Mount Washington last weekend and grabbed the B.C. Cup downhill title for the season.
Beattys time of 4:12.20 was 6.5 seconds faster than runner up Geoff Pendrell. Mike Jones was third.
Downhill and cross-country mountain bikers were at Mount Washington last weekend, as the Island Throwdown served as the B.C. Cup Finals for the second year in a row.
The sons of two former downhill ski racers from Whistler showed that a love for speed runs in families, as Alex Prochazka and Tyler Allison picked up silver and bronze medals in the Under 15 downhill at Mount Washington.
Prochazka finished second despite losing his goggles out of the start, stopping to ask for a re-start, having his request turned down, and then continuing on. Even though he was second on the day Prochazka still won the B.C. Cup series Under 15 downhill title.
Tyler Allison was third in the downhill, and finished second to Prochazka in the final series standings.
Allison was also second in the Under 15 cross-country race and second in the B.C. Cup final standings in cross-country.
Other local riders in the Under 15 downhill were Nick Geddes, who finished fourth, to go along with his fourth place finish in the cross-country race, and Simon DArtois, who was 15 th .
Whistlers Brandon Semenuk was third in the Under 15 cross-country race.
Tyler Allisons father, Bob, was third in the 40+ Expert Mens cross-country race, 3:18 behind winner Michael Judge. Tim Daechsel was second. Whistlers Mike Charuk was sixth.
In the Senior Expert Mens category Dustin Gordon was fourth, three minutes off the pace set by winner Trevor Jones.
Trevor Hopkins was second in the 30-39 Expert Mens class, 4:25 behind winner Ryan Oliver.
John Wong was fourth in the 30+ Sport division.
The Elite Mens cross-country race was won by veteran Andreas Hestler, who finished 1:27 ahead of Matt Martindill. Squamish rider Ryan Edwards was third, 4:27 off Hestlers pace.
Wendy Simms won the Elite Womens cross-country race. Squamishs Meghan Kindree was third, 3:20 behind Simms.
