What: DJ Experience
When: Saturday, April 22
Where: Telus Conference Centre
Take an international DJ with a name like Bad Boy Bill, tag off to a UK DJ who sports an album name like A Night at the Playboy Mansion and then wrap it up in a burlesque-show bow performed by a sex kitten whose body will unfold in Playboy ’s May issue, and you know the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival’s DJ Experience is going to steam up the windows of the Telus Conference Centre this Saturday.
"I hope to meet the Playmate," said Bad Boy Bill from his winter home base in L.A.
Boys will be boys and Bill will get as bad as he wants for the grotto-inspired party with plenty of sensual house.
"House music in general does," he said of the genre’s sexy feel. "I think that is what is great about it. It’s a love music – opposed to gangster rap. Girls like dancing to it, so it brings that sexuality out."
The girl with the moves to look out for Saturday evening will be Sterling, a supermodel starlet who has appeared in all the eye-candy magazines: Maxim , Stuff and FHM . The blonde bombshell toured her striptease show with The Pussy Cat Dolls and has performed with red carpet royalty such as Scarlet Johanson, Fergie and Carmen Electra at The Viper Room.
Perched on a tower of scaffolding in the centre of the party the Vogue model with curves that don’t stop will sponge down in a bubble bath. She’ll continue to work up a lather with Bad Boy Bill, Dimitri from Paris, Timeline and Jesse James of Vancouver and local turntable talent DJ Vinyl Ritchie and Kori K on deck into the a.m. hours.
Like the albums he records, Bill always spins out a multi-sensory experience with visual and audio output filling the dancefloor.
Over the past year, rumours flew on whether the Chicago native had a mix album or artist album in the works. Turns out both were correct with the styles being united on one DVD.
"I just want to give people more than just a mix album," said the legendary scratch artist. "I am always into combining them to make it a cool package. I am still working on it. It will probably be released the end of August or September."
Bill’s five-volume Bangin’ The Box Series is the highest grossing series in dance music history. His most recent album is Behind the Decks.
"It’s got a lot of energy," he said of his sets. "The peak hour set will have some more mellow and more laidback (tracks), but mine is definitely funky, but still has energy to it to keep people going."
Expect funky house, tech house, soulful house, disco house and vocal house from his turntables. Are you catching the theme? It was no surprise Bill was voted America’s Favourite House Music DJ by BPM this year. His last top-dog accolade from the magazine was America’s Number One DJ, in 2003.
"I was happy," he said of his most recent title. "What makes me happy about it is that it was voted by fans, people took the time to vote for me, so it means a lot to me."
Dimitri of Paris also has no shortage of accolades with his lightning-quick mixes touring the world’s hottest nightspots from New York and Los Angeles to Peru, Columbia, Germany and Spain.
He draws from the golden jazz era of the ’50s and early ’60s, along with groovier soundtracks of the ’70s. While Dimitri’s credits include numerous albums, he is most famous for his A Night at the Playboy Mansion and After the Playboy Mansion .
Advanced $60 tickets for the love in from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. are available at the HotBox Internet Café.
