Fundraiser on the Lake

Local artists are raffling their canvasses as part of the second Annual Fundraiser for the Whistler Art Workshops on the Lake program.

The fundraiser will showcase the work of renowned professional art workshop instructors as well as emerging local artists and workshop participants. These artists kindly donated original paintings created on 8" x 8" canvases giving you the opportunity to own a very affordable piece of original art. Purchase a raffle ticket for $50 and you are guaranteed to take home a new piece of artwork!

There will also be a cash bar, live entertainment, and complimentary appetizers at the event Sunday Sept.11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Nita Lake Lodge.

Tickets are $15 and are available online and at Millennium Place. The

raffle tickets are $50 and will be sold on site. The money will go to support the continuation of the workshops on the lake program.

The fundraiser was initiated by two long-time art workshops participants, Bea Gonzalez and Lisa Geddes, in response to budget cuts by B.C. Gaming grants. Both women recognized the great impact the funding cuts had on the Whistler Art Workshops on the Lake and other Whistler Arts Council programs and have dedicated their time to organize this evening filled with art and wine.

"In the six years that we have been running the program we have given so many artists the opportunity to grow in their practice and in their art," said Gonzalez.

"There have been many people that have participated in one of our workshops and have gone on to practice art professionally and become artists, including many Whistlerites. You don't have to be a serious artist to take our workshops or take up art, many people are interested in pursuing art as a pastime or for the personal growth it offers."
