Arrests made in spate of Pemberton B&Es

Pemberton man charged



Pemberton RCMP have arrested a 28-year-old man in conjunction with a recent spate of break-ins in the village.

Five businesses were broken into between the evening of Sunday, Jan. 15 and the following Monday morning. A thorough investigation of the crime scenes performed by the RCMP Forensic Identification Services from North Vancouver located several clues. Items taken from the premises included money, a laptop computer and other incidentals.

Dietrich Merten of Pemberton has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of fraud in relation to three separate incidents. The investigation remains ongoing to ascertain if Merten is related to any other crimes in the area.

The RCMP is asking for public assistance on any recent criminal activity to help this large-scale investigation. The Pemberton RCMP detachment can be reached at 604-894-6634.

Drug trafficker breaches bail

Wendy Warnes, charged in connection with a May 2005 drug bust on Pemberton Farm Road, has bee arrested for breach of bail.

Warnes was out on bail pending a trial.

On the morning of Jan. 27, Pemberton RCMP became suspicious of a car stopped outside of a residence believed to be in the drug trade. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Warnes.

Warnes was believed to be in breach of bail conditions put in place by a Provincial Court Judge and subsequently held in custody. Pemberton RCMP forwarded a report to Crown Counsel surrounding the circumstances of the alleged breaches.

She appeared before a Justice of the Peace in the afternoon. She was released from police custody with stricter conditions. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 2nd, 2006 in Pemberton Court.

Grow op busted in Birken

Pemberton RCMP busted a Birken grow operation this week.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 31 police executed a search warrant on a home in the 2900 block of Stanley Road in Birken and arrested two people in connection with an indoor grow operation,

The investigation that yielded the search warrant was started after tips from the public indicated that there was drug trafficking activity occurring on the premises. Pemberton Mounties were able to gather enough information to obtain a search warrant under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. The search revealed dried marijuana, plants ready for harvest and some already packaged.

A 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, both of Birken, were arrested and later released. The two are facing charges of production of a controlled substance, possession for the purposes of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

They are scheduled to make their first appearance in Pemberton Provincial Court on April 6, 2006.
