The Village of Pemberton (VOP) has announced appointments to the Airport Governance Committee. The new, short-term committee will spend the next few months determining the best management plan for the community amenity.
VOP council has determined that the best management is to develop an airport authority. The governance committees job will be to establish terms of reference and criteria for membership on the airport authoritys board of directors.
The new committee is comprised of representatives from the stakeholder communities of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD), Whistler, Pemberton and Mt. Currie.
The SLRD will be represented by Area C Director Susie Gimse, with staff member Steve Olmstead acting as alternate. Whistlers interests will be represented by Ian Dunn, manager of research for Tourism Whistler and Stuart Rempel, marketing director for Whistler-Blackcomb. The two men will also represent the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Whistler Chamber of Commerce. Lilwat Nation Councillor Lucinda Phillips will speak for Mt. Currie, while Pemberton Valley Golf and Country Club manager Brian Young will represent the Pemberton Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Pemberton.
VOP councilors Mark Blundell and David MacKenzie will also sit on the committee. Owner/operator of the Pemberton Soaring Centre, Rudy Roszypalek, will act as a Member at Large.
VOP staff expect the Airport Governance Committee to meet before the end of the month. It is anticipated that the committee will be disbanded before the end of September.
