Its now even easier to volunteer thanks to a new interactive online service system unveiled recently by 2010 LegaciesNow.
"VolWeb.ca is an exciting new initiative that will help to capture the enthusiasm and excitement people have about the numerous events coming to British Columbia and Canada over the next few years," said Marion Lay, President and CEO of 2010 LegaciesNow.
The program, which was unveiled at the launch of Volunteers Now an initiative which will seek to develop sustainable legacies in the volunteer sector leading up to and beyond the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, hopes to register one million Canadians by 2012.
VolWeb.ca will initially connect volunteers across British Columbia with organizers planning sporting and community events such as the Grey Cup, World Junior Hockey Championships and the Hyack Community Festival.
"The Grey Cup Committee in Vancouver is pleased to be linking with VolWeb.ca as a unique way of locating the volunteers we will need in the coming weeks to make our event a great success," said Scott Ackles of the 2005 Grey Cup Organizing Committee.
"After the Grey Cup is over, there will be a great legacy of thousands of registered volunteers who may wish to participate in other events into the future."

"As an Olympic athlete, I fully understand the important role volunteers play in helping to make community and sporting events a great success," said Charmaine Crooks, five-time Olympic athlete and Honourary Ambassador for the Volunteers Now program. "With the overall rate of volunteerism on the decline throughout Canada, VolWeb.ca will play a crucial role in helping to reverse that trend over the long-term."
