Both Whistler and Blackcomb recruit staff through the summer, but each lift company is also planning an employee recruitment campaign this month. Whistler Mountain's campaign starts Tuesday, while Blackcomb's starts Sept. 21. Whistler Employment Centre Employment Co-ordinator Wendy Mah says retail operations don't usually hire staff until October. While some retailers have noticed an increase in job applications from Americans this year, particularly from Colorado, Mah says there are no more Americans this year than in previous seasons. "When the Snow Country magazine comes out we usually get a lot of calls from Americans looking for work, but it's difficult for Americans to get visas," she says. Mah adds most job applicants are from Ontario or Quebec, but there are also a large number of Australians looking for work.
